Walking in DC

At the exhibition we reclined in the cool underwater chill out space, listening to soothing drum and bass, a welcomed contrast to the hot sultry city streets above.

DC Delicacies:
Macaron from Laduree at Union Station (pistachio, salted caramel, chocolate, and rose water).

As the start of school fast approaches, we decided to take a day trip to Washington DC, to catch the exhibition, From the Deep, by artist Ayana V. Jackson, at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art.

We biked to the Marc Train, took an hour ride to DC's Union Station, walked a half-hour in the blazing heat to the museum on the Mall, and caught this beautiful multimedia installation.

The public gardens and plantings in the District are always beautiful, we strolled through the gardens between the Asian Art and African Art museums, and snapped lots of pics of interesting foliage and flora ...but sadly no name labels...ha!

First is the tallest tiger lily I have ever seen, towered over 6 feet!

The brick pathway through the garden leads to several shady and verdant nooks, as well as up to the museum doors! It's difficult to appreciate the high heat in photographs...it was a whopping 92F (30C) in the shade. We cooled off my eating soft serve (sorry, not photo of that as it melted way too quickly to be photogenic!)

Food trucks abound, around the Mall, and thankfully there is plenty of ice cream to cool off visitors

Leaving the city, we had to snap one final pic of the capital building, heretofore called the scene of the crime.
