Homeward Bound 2023

Me and hubby at one of Antigua's 365 beaches 😂

I'm looking svelte

The last time that we ventured home to Antigua was summer 2019, for the first ever Christopher/Joseph family reunion. The round trip was our last set of family flights before the Covid-19 global pandemic. My very last solo air travel was the winter England visit on 2020. Once lockdowns started and general fear of airborne transmission set in, airplanes were no longer an option. During these past few Covid-years, we have driven to our usual summertime locals, and even to Vermont (when I consulted at a university, in 2021).

This year, I am taking a much-anticipated summer off from school and we are headed home again. Our brief travel coincides with the Independence day holiday, and we will be staying again at the oldest resort on the island. We fell in love with the place back in 2017, when we headed home for a family funeral that winter. The place offers a central location, makes authentic Antiguan food alongside British and American standards, has beautiful views and the calmest waters.

We got treated to a cricket match
at a nearby pitch, and I used my
limited knowledge to woman-splain
the game to hubby

I am looking forward to fresh fruits and veggies, pumpkin fritters, swimming with the stingrays (like tourists for once), day drinking, surf lessons, holding my family in my arms—one younger cousin and his wife have had a baby who needs to meet her aunt and uncle from Maryland—sketching and reading on the beach, dancing at the RoadHouse with another cousin, visiting my parent’s new house…okay now I’m just rambling. Here are some pics from our last trip:

Antiguan rendition of USA 4th of July picnic meal...loved it!
